A recent survey involving 700 individuals in the United States has uncovered a noteworthy trend: people tend to favor content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) over that created by fellow humans. This inclination towards AI-generated material suggests that AI possesses the ability to craft content that deeply connects with individuals.
In this survey, AI consistently outperformed human efforts in all six comparisons of AI versus human-created content. For instance, in a task that required writing an introduction for a blog post about the best cat food for indoor cats, 54% of the participants preferred the AI’s version. AI also surpassed human abilities in various other content creation tasks, such as crafting social media advertisements, blog post segments, social media updates, and product descriptions.
However, it’s important to recognize that preference for AI-generated content doesn’t automatically translate to superior performance in metrics like web traffic, lead generation, revenue, search engine rankings, or user engagement. There have been cases where AI-created content has led to unexpected outcomes or misinformation.
Conducted as part of a larger study by Semrush titled „Think Big with AI: Transforming Small Business Content Marketing,“ this survey included a diverse group of U.S. residents aged 18 and above. Semrush employed detailed instructions and criteria for producing both the human and AI-generated content.
These findings suggest that AI can be effective and engaging in content creation when guided correctly. Nonetheless, it is crucial to understand that AI alone may not be sufficient for content writing. While AI can produce concise, value-oriented, and readable content, it still necessitates human supervision and discernment for ensuring accuracy and significance.
In my opinion, even though this survey may not be entirely representative or accurate, it showcases that AI can perform on par with humans, and in the long run, is likely to surpass human capabilities due to its learning from data. In conclusion, the survey results highlight the increasing role of AI in content creation and marketing. While AI demonstrates potential in generating high-quality content, it should be viewed as a tool that, when used alongside human expertise, can yield the best outcomes.
